7 Things To Remember While Moving

In order to minimize unnecessary stress or anxiety, Imlach and Collins Brothers recommend following a list of the seven things to remember while moving. 

7 Things to Remember Checklist

• Records: remember to obtain copies of all of the family member’s medical and school records. Once you arrive at your destination you will need to have these readily available to aid in the transition to new medical providers and school systems.

• Medicine: If pertaining to you, transfer any current prescriptions to the local pharmacy. This way you can have fast and easy access to your medication and reduce the risk of running out of important medicine.

• Address: Have your mail transferred to your new address before you move. Additionally, be sure to update any documents that you may need with your new address including your vehicle registration.

• Bank: If you belong to a national bank with branches everywhere then this may not pertain to you. But, if you belong to a local bank we recommend that you either transfer your account to a national bank or find a local bank at your destination. 

• Valuables: Double check all the hiding spots around your house to ensure nothing is left behind. Be sure that you keep all of your important documents together and with you in your personal vehicle. It may be tempting to have your movers bring your valuables with them in the truck, however, this is highly discouraged.

• Pets: Since most relocation companies cannot transport pets, establish a plan to ensure they travel safely. If  you have an aquarium or some form of aquatic/tank based pet, be sure to discuss with your local pet store the best way to transport them safely. If you have a cat or dog be sure to make a comfortable space for them in the car and get them any motion sickness medication they may need.

• Courtesy: Leave your old house clean for the new owners moving in and collect any spare keys from under your doormat or neighbors homes. Be sure that these get passed along to the new owners so that they don’t have to get copies of their new keys made.
