Southlake History

Southlake started out as four separate settlements. These were called Whites Chapel, Jellico, Union Church and Dove. The region was first settled in 1840, but would not be incorporated until more than a century later. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dammed Denton Creek, creating Grapevine Lake. This was done to provide flood control and to create a water reserve. It also lead to the creation of recreational spots around the lake. Southlake became incorporated shortly after this, in 1956.

Southlake offers one of the best public-school systems in the state of Texas. All of the schools have a low student-to-teacher ratio. The high school is known for its championship sports teams and a high-level of academic success.

Southlake Hospitals

There are approximately 163 physicians per 100,000 residents in Southlake. Methodist Southlake Hospital is known for its Bariatric Center. It also offers services in general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, spinal surgery and pain management.

Texas Health Harris Methodist offers all of the services above along with some additional ones. Some of these include: ear, nose and throat; colorectal surgery, gynecology, podiatry, urology and plastic surgery. This hospital also has an emergency room.

Baylor Scott & White offers emergency-medical care and a number of additional services. Some of these include: cancer care, allergy treatments, eye care, foot care, lung care, diabetes treatment and a whole lot more.

Three of the city’s top restaurants are BRIO Tuscan Grille, Del Frisco’s Grille and Copeland’s of New Orleans. BRIO is an Italian eatery, Del Frisco’s offers excellent steak and seafood and Copeland’s serves up fantastic Creole-Cajun dishes.

Things to do in Southlake Texas

One of the top spots in Southlake area is the Gateway Church. This megachurch has a large auditorium and offers services with contemporary praise music. For a bit of wild-west fun, you can always visit the Marshall Creek Ranch in Southlake. For a different kind of adventure, you can check out the Red Door Escape Room. There are numerous places to enjoy on and around Grapevine Lake as well.
