The earliest settlers from neighboring areas and states entered the area now known as Richardson in the 1840s. When a railroad was built in the area after the Civil War, the population increased and the town was officially established in 1873. Commercial and residential growth continued in to the 1900s as the northeast section of the city continued to be developed, which attracted new residents quickly.
