4 Simple Moving Hacks to Transition Smoothly Into a New Home

Transitioning into a new house can be a serious hassle as you set up your home with all of your belongings, appliances, and more. Fortunately, we have some hacks from experienced movers which can smooth your moving experience and provide an easier transition.

Take pictures!

Take pictures of how you have your TV, cable boxes, WiFi router, and other media devices while you’re packing, and use them to help set everything back up in your new home. No need to figure out everything twice!

Eliminate unnecessary items.

Use your move as an opportunity to get rid of old items which are due for replacement or which you no longer use. Old cleaning supplies such as frayed brooms or worn-out toilet brushes often aren’t worth packing and can be thrown out and replaced when you arrive at your new home. Similarly, as you sort through and pack up your clothing, note which items haven’t left the back of your closet in a while or which you don’t use anymore, and put them in a separate box to donate.

Do laundry!

Packing up dirty clothes and linens can make unpacking complicated and unpleasant. Skip the sniff-test process by washing your clothes and linens before you pack them up to make moving in all the more hassle-free. Also, since most movers don’t ship liquid cleaning supplies, switch to powder detergent leading up to your move so you don’t have to leave behind perfectly good supplies.

Pack and unpack box by box.

When packing or unpacking, go one box at a time to avoid finding yourself surrounded by a mess of half-packed boxes. When packing don’t start packing a new box until the last one is full, and similarly when unpacking don’t open another box until the last one is empty. You could even number your boxes so that you can unpack in the same order as you packed, to smooth out the process and simplify the decision of which boxes to open when.
