Highland Park History

In 1889, a group of investors bought Highland Park then called Philadelphia place Land. The town’s development started through Henry Exall who laid gravel roads and formed Exall Lake. Exall Lake later evolved to become a popular picnic destination for Dallas residents. He also started a horse breeding farm. In 1900’s, John S. Armstrong also invested in some portion of Philadelphia Place land, called it Highland Park and started to develop it. He chose the name because it overlooked Dallas and is located on high land. Since then, the town has developed to include modern businesses, schools, hospitals, transport systems and more of what we can see today.

Highland climate is characterized by humid and hot summers as well as slight to cool winters. General area climate is considered to be humid subtropical by the climate classification system.
