Fort Worth History
In 1849, the U.S. War Department developed Fort Worth as one of 10 forts intended to protect the frontier after the Mexican-American War. The ranching industry began to emerge as Fort Worth was known as the center of cattle drives, being a main stop on the Chisholm Trail. In the early 1900’s and again in the 1970’s, Fort Worth would continue to see a boom to the economy with the success of the area’s oil industry. Fort Worth continues to thrive in part due to its underground natural gas reserves, and was reported to be the fastest growing city in the US in the early 2000’s.

Public transportation is available through the Fort Worth Transportation Authority, known as the “T”, offering bus routes throughout city. Forth Worth connects to Dallas by The Trinity Railway Express by commuter rail. Amtrak also serves the area with two routes. The Dallas Fort Worth Airport offers numerous flights and is the third busiest airport in the world.
