10 Steps to Help You Pack Faster

by Oct 17, 2017Tips0 comments

Sometimes you have the luxury of having as much time as you need to pack for your next move. Other times you are under a time crunch where it seems impossible to get all your things packed quickly enough. If you feel like you don’t have enough time to get ready for any local moving companies to come in and help you move, here are ten steps to help you get your packing done quicker.

Have a Plan With Where To Begin

Sometimes it’s worth taking an hour to sit down and put together a plan about where to begin. Packing your things is generally a marathon, but circumstances may lead you to turning it into a sprint. Planning your course of action will make the process more efficient.

Develop A Checklist

While you’re planning, make a checklist of the things you need to do in the order you need to do them. Then the most difficult part is just sticking with the checklist! A checklist can make you organized and impress your packers and movers when they arrive to get you moved.

Get Rid of Unwanted Items

If you aren’t sure whether you’ll ever use a certain item again, now is the time to simply get rid of it. Many people choose to purge a lot of items when they are moving because it takes too much time to pack it all.

Start Packing Early and Often

When you’re time is limited, you have to start packing immediately. You may even consider hiring packing services to help you get the job done before your move. Every minute you have should be spent packing when you know you have to do it anyway.

Get Your Packing Materials Together

Having the necessary supplies like boxes, tape, packing paper, bubble wrap and others can keep your packing process moving forward. Your packers and movers will have these items when they arrive, of course, but you don’t want to wait for them to get there before beginning.

Think About What Should Come First

Prioritizing your efforts will go a long way in making the packing process go much faster. For example, don’t pack up all of your clothes or toiletries until the very end, since you’ll need those items all the way up until your moving day.

Don’t Forget About Safety

Getting into a rush can make you forget about safety protocols. Don’t sacrifice packing materials just to get the job done more quickly. Your packers and movers will appreciate the boxes being taped strongly and securely so they can avoid injury, as well as damaging your items.

Have Your Family or Friends Help You Pack

Depending on the size of your home, it may be impossible for you to pack up your entire house on your own. To be most efficient have a plan in place for them so they know exactly what you want to accomplish, and where things need to go.

Stay Focused on Certain Areas

When you start packing one room, stay in that room until it’s complete. Going back and forth to different rooms may seem productive, but you’ll just be spinning your wheels at that point. Completing tasks to mark off your checklist as quickly as possible should be your main goal.

Seek Advice From Professional Movers

Many local moving companies will provide you with advice to help you move quickly. And if you use their services, they may even provide you with some of the materials you need to help your move go smoothly.
